Sequel to the revolutionary action game

DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH is a premium action game from Sony Interactive and 505 Games. Directed by established video game designer Hideo Kojima, this serves as the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 Death Stranding. This game aims to explore another mission, this time beyond the borders of the United Cities of America. Sam returns, this time with companions, again looking for a way to save mankind while raising Louise.

While most technical details remain under wraps, DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH promises to be an immersive, breathtaking experience that will match, if not surpass the original.

Go beyond the UCA

Early press materials revealed the working title that is DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH, heavily hinting that Sam Porter Bridges, a human courier that delivers various packages to remote colonies and reconnects them with a wireless communications network. By the end of the original campaign, Sam finally destroys his employer’s cufflinks. This leaves his fate unknown as he goes off the grid, carrying a human baby known as Louise.

As mentioned, the technical specifications behind this sequel still remain under wraps. However, the original was made using the Decima engine, so it’s fair to say that it will use the same engine or a much more powerful successor. Gameplay-wise, this serves as the second “strand game,” an original gaming subgenre coined by Kojima himself. This way, gameplay goals are achieved primarily through social interactions, instead of puzzles or combat.

The settings, full storyline, and even the characters involved still remain to be seen. Aside from Sam Bridges, played by actor Norman Reedus, and the young human he saved, other characters like Mads Mikkelsen’s Cliff Unger or Troy Baker’s Higgs Monahan will create precedents for the characters to be introduced On The Beach. Since its a sequel, the initial difficulty curve is pretty much carried over to this game.

A very promising experience

Although the release date is still a long way off, DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH has already generated hype, and rightly so. It continues the tradition of a budding new subgenre, although it poses the same challenge for new players. Despite a lot of things still unknown to the public, the materials it has released already give out enough information to pique everyone’s interest.
